CLOUDS & FOG IN THE ALPS

Иногда утреннее небо может быть одновременно безмятежным и нереальным. Возможно, именно такое небо можно было увидеть перед восходом в феврале с одного из заснеженных швейцарских склонов. Облака, подсвеченные огнями снизу, скрывают от наблюдателя деревню Трюббах. В левой части картинки величественно красуется покрытая снегом гора Миттлершпиц, возвышающаяся над маленьким городком Бальцерс в Лихтенштейне. Справа, где вот-вот встанет Солнце, простираются далёкие альпийские вершины. В правом верхнем углу видны лунный полумесяц и яркая планета Венера. Венера появлялась на небе по утрам весь месяц, хотя, конечно, её трудно застать в таком живописном сопровождении.




Quiet clouds blanket the above scene, lit from beneath by lights from the village of Trübbach. A snow covered mountain, Mittlerspitz, poses dramatically on the upper left, hovering over the small town of Balzers, Liechtenstein far below. Peaks from the Alps can be seen across the far right, just below the freshly rising Sun. Visible on the upper right are the crescent Moon and the bright planet Venus.

View looking south from near the 1798m. summit of Rigi mountain. The lake is the lake of 4 Cantons (Vierwaldstättersee). The dissipating mist is Hochnebel, a high fog that frequantly occurs on the north side of the Alps in winter, at about 1000m. and creates a temperature inversion. It can be sunny and mild above the fog, dark and cold below. Some days it does not burn off at all.
